Округ Колумбия Вашингтон город, столица Соединённых Штатов Америки. Официальное название округ Колумбия. Чтобы не путать город с одноимённым штатом на северо-западе страны, американцы в разговорной речи обычно называют город «Ди-Си» или «Вашингтон, Ди-Си».






Вашингтон называют сердцем и политическим центром США, где работают и живут американские президенты. Основная часть населения занята на государственной службе, в сфере услуг, в торговле и финансах. Имеются предприятия пищевой, полиграфической, военной промышленности.




РЕЛИГИЯ Большинство жителей города являются христианами 28 % жителей католики, 9,1 % американские баптисты, 6,8 % южные баптисты, 1,3 % православные христиане и 13 % составляют представители других христианских верований. Исламское население города составляет 10,6 %, представители иудаизма составляют 4,5 % от всего населения. 26,8 % всех горожан придерживаются других вер или вообще не практикуют никакую религию.



Белый дом был официальной резиденцией всех Президентов США, за исключением Джорджа Вашингтона, который занимал этот пост с 1789 по 1797 годы. In 16 th of July, 1790 Congress of the USA approved the place for future capital. It was a place between two states: Virgin and Maryland, on the Potomac river.

The project of the city was created by French engineer Pierre-Charles Lanfan.

In 1814 Washington D.C. was annexed by British army and burned. It was restored later.

In 1862 slavery was abolished in Washington. And thousands of African Americans came to the city.

From 1801 till our days Washington D.C. is ruled by Congress of the USA, Mayor and Legislative Council.
